Spring things in the Garden city-a jewellers guide

Spring things in the Garden city-a jewellers guide

Well,it's finally arrived and despite me sounding kind of repetitive -I'm bloody happy SPRING has arrived...

This means I tend to get out more, anyone familiar with a Southern winter realizes exactly what I mean-as in winter it's all about staying in,drinking wine, eating slow cooked lambshanks...Which I cook to perfection*(unless of course I've started too early on the wine!)-or Tequila as was the scenario one fateful Sunday arvo...

So I'm brushing of my "squirrelness"-is that a word-if it's not I don't care..

Today I thought I would talk about some of my favourite local haunts..No-their not the Strip or Poplar Lanes,or heaven forbid those hideous bars on Manchester street-or some wanky restaurant down Victoria street -who's food is as pretentious as it's "do I HAVE to serve you...I mean YOU "Saggio de Vino"-crappo! "your staff and your owner are as pretentious as your over rated food!

NOTE:to  restaurant staff"you work in HOSPITALITITY you are PAID to be nice-so smile and be nice..damit!

Anyway I deviate-I wanted to share with you my favourite slightly off the beaten track CHCH foodie spots.

I'll start with my coffee fix  www.vivaceespresso.co.nz only around the corner-great coffee, fantastic Baristas and more than that-it's mine and Bellas 10 0'clock fix!!

If I'm hungry-or need an afternoon coffee,or the best chai latte you will find..then it's

Under the Red Verandah

www.utrv.co.nz a Christchurch institution right in the heart of the Bronx*(where I live)-hearty ,fully organic fare ,big portions, busy, bustling and for gods sake remember to book as it's often packed out ALL DAY!!!The staff are lovely and it's nice to be a local-they alway's find me a table..The only downside to this place is sometimes it's filled with a snotty "Lyn Woods" type clientele..Ladies who have driven their designer SUV's and BMW's over to "the dark side" of town...Ohhhhh...how  truly daring of them!!!

They can't smile cause they are full of Botox..

Further down the road and around the corner a wee bit is the"Mediterranean warehouse"www.medfoods.co.nz-and huge well-warehouse stacked full of all you need for one hell of a dinner party..They do fantastic lunches-and perfect pizza..But the Gelato has to be the best I've ever tried.

And on a final note-and she is'nt even in the city-she's over the other side of town ..Fendarrrlton...But Agnus makes chocolate like no other-in Fendalton Mall there is a tiny shop called "temper temper" here you will find chocolate that is made by a goddess-no shit!

www.tempertemper.co.nz

Not cheap-but quality and craftmanship prevail and I swear if I'm having a crap day 3 of her truffles soon sort me out.HEAVEN!!!

happy spring munching my friends!
