Submitted by debra on Sat, 08/01/2009 - 05:49.Jewellery is alway's an emotive buy-rarely is there not a story that surrounds it's purchase,thoughts feelings come into play more often than not ...But what are the other things to consider before spending (or in some cases)-COMPLETELY blowing the budget on that new piece of bling!!
Do you love it?I guess this is an obvious one -if like me your one of those "see it,love it,BUY IT types -this will be utterly trivial ,but for some it may take a few viewings ,a little think...I'm alway's happy to let people go home and think about a particular piece they have seen in my range.I'm not a "let's close the deal" kind of a seller-in fact I find that whole sell,sell,sell mentality quite disturbing-if your've ever been "pounced" on by over eager sales chickies in a clothing boutique you will get my drift!!!BACK OFF!!!
Does it suit you?
Often people have a certain say ring style in their head -but when they try it on it often does'nt suit-o.k. not all the time...It's a major buzz when someone tries on a piece and not only do I think it looks great -but all those around them nod in unison at whole f'in fantastic it looks on!
That's why when buying jewellery ,it's reasuring to speak directly to the designer maker -like myself..Because trust me I know what suits and what does'nt and unlike the gallery assistant or the commission based sale's chickie-I won't bull..it you in any way,shape or form.
Another thing which seems unimportant to the majority of jewellery makers out there is "HOW DOES IT FEEL?"
If it's a ring-is it comfortable..?Smooth,tactile-my pet hate is jeweller's who don't polish the inside of their rings because it CAN'T BE SEEN-it's just slack!Or finish the back of necklaces or any other pieces.I sometimes have galleries telling me a customer likes the look of another jeweller's ring -but wishes it FELT as good as mine!!!
Are the links soldered on say a bracelet or a necklace-can you see the joins?(you should'nt)
Are the stones set well,does the clasp work easily-is it secure..
WILL YOU LOVE IT FOREVER????
