Contemporary Jewellery exciting times ahead..

2010 a new beginning?

well, not really ...But it's back to the workshop, which as I may have mentioned in previous blogs is now half the size of the original..It's a long story, but one that involves Husband, and the Christchurch City Council, and their consent laws, which seem to change dependant on who you get on the day for inspection(bless).Poor hubby just has to grit his teeth  "suck the Kumara'  and make the petty  changes they ask for -it's 'just the way things are".

It's not all bad though we had a huge cleanout  before Christmas so despite the smaller area ,there is less crap in it!

I've already been dreaming of the new workshop,it's layout ,the french doors out into a deck over looking the garden- I found a great book on workshops and jewellery spaces in general on Ganskin.com..Full of great tips and tricks from the professionals.

Apart from vowing this year to make more earrings*(I hate making earrings, horrid fiddly things with ,tiny "bit's"-you make one and then have to make another!!)But since challenges are essential to life experiences I'm going to try very hard..However if you hear a weird Banshee type sound eminating from the inner city Christchurch area it will probably be me screaming whilst hurling my saw like a weapon through the air.

Oh,if one could just draw things and "bingo" they would appear ready made-bit like pastry!

Which brings me to the retail shop idea-still on hold until the post recession ,depression is truly behind us.We may be out of the thing-but like an earthquake the after shocks are still being felt ,and it may be some time before people feel comfortable spending too much on luxury goods.

Jewellery's such a funny thing..I sometimes think I've choosen a hard career-just sitting at the Art Centre and people watching all day I'm astonished at how ugly some of the jewellery people chose to year is..But it's entirely personal opinion is'nt it?So much of it is the same,same,same..

When you see someone wearing jewellery a little different it shows indivuality and confidence-I alway's notice if someone is wearing a beautiful piece-whether it's made by me or not.

Shit..lifes to short to be mediocre!!!
