Moissonite is it the new diamond?

Moissonite

Strange name -but  a gorgeous new gem on the market...

For as long as man can remember diamonds have been known as having the most sparkle of all gems -but now it has a rival in a new material named moissonite.

WHAT IS MOISSONITE?

Moissonite in plain terms is Silicon Carbide thought to have been carried to Earth by a meteorite over 50,000 years ago it is found in VERY small quantities naturally in places such as  the Arizona desert.

HELP!!"My ring is giving me a nasty rash!!!"

WHY IS MY RING GIVING ME A RASH?

O.K...

Before you jump up and down, scream"I've been had!",cry and slander your local jeweller to all and Sundry*(It happened to me recently)-there may be a few different reasons WHY your beautiful handmade ring is causing you such irritation.

This seems to happen to less than 1% of my clients-so put that in everyday terms that's like once a year I get the dreaded phone call.

"Can you use my old jewellery to make something new?"

...This is a question I'm often asked

It alway's goes something along the lines of"Hi Debra I have an old ring of my Grandmothers-can you use the gold in it and the stones and set them into a new wedding ring for me?'

O.K. it may not be a wedding ring or even a ring for that matter-but it's a question customers are  often curious about.

Contemporary jewellery -goes to Wellington!

I'm off to Welly...

Well Martinborough in the Wairarapa to be exact. It's another big day and I mean BIG-bigger than Ben hur*(who is this Ben guy?).

It's in the quaint village ,town of Martinborough nestled amongst the vineyards-the biggest fair this Saturday.

Well worth thr drive over-it's a fantastic day out!

Contemporary commitment rings...

Commitment rings..

O.K. so all jewellers go on about wedding and engagement rings -but often I make alot of committment rings also...

Just as beautiful, just as unique, just as personalised as all my wedding/engagement rings..

Just a different WORD-that's all!!!

These were made for a local couple to symbolise their love and adoration for each other

Contemporary Jewellery exciting times ahead..

2010 a new beginning?

well, not really ...But it's back to the workshop, which as I may have mentioned in previous blogs is now half the size of the original..It's a long story, but one that involves Husband, and the Christchurch City Council, and their consent laws, which seem to change dependant on who you get on the day for inspection(bless).Poor hubby just has to grit his teeth  "suck the Kumara'  and make the petty  changes they ask for -it's 'just the way things are".

HAPPY NEW YEAR-JEWELLERY BLOG!!!

Well it's 2010....

not a space oddity-but a new year..

It started slowly for me-probably due to the fact I was  feeling somewhat "burnt out" in the later part of 2009.

I'm quite sure I'm not the only one who had a love + hate relationship with the past year.Seemed I worked harder than ever before for rather meagre rewards..

Don't get me wrong-it was'nt THAT BAD...

Myself or my family are still intact-my dog's still orange..

But it felt so often like a hard hill climb-without scroggin or a nice view on arrival!
